No fewer than 150 secondary pupils gathered last Wednesday
at the Hall of New Era secondary school in surulere, Lagos State to participate
in a spelling competition organised by Miss Grand Nigeria, Princess Agunbiade.
According to her, the competition is aimed at developing the
innate skills of the students in the state, creating good reading habits and
helping them improve their spelling skills, their vocabulary and develop
correct English usage.
Mariam Salami from Gbaja Girls Junior High School and Taiwo
Akinniliba from New Era Girls Senior High School both went home with brand new
laptops, school bags, shopping vouchers and customized T-shirts as they emerged
as the top winners.
While their 1st runner ups Victory Orji from Stadium Junior
High School and Temitope Omoniyi from Onitolo Senior High School both went home
with tablets, school bags, shopping vouchers, customized T-shirts and writing
materials.
The Hosts for the event Tomike Alayande and Beddie Rodrigo
in their closing remark thanked the organizer and also noted that the
competition will, over the years, help boost the students’ confidence, create a
healthy rivalry among the students and draw out their intellectual
capabilities.
